Project Details
Premier Engineering (Yorkshire) Ltd were proud to support the ambitious transformation of the historic Rutland Mills into Tileyard North — a major regeneration scheme set to become the largest creative industries hub in the UK outside of London. Our contribution to this landmark development involved the fabrication and installation of bespoke supporting steelwork for several of the Grade II listed buildings that make up the 135,000 sq. ft site. These structures, many of which date back to the 19th century, required precise engineering solutions that were both sensitive to the site’s heritage and capable of meeting modern construction standards.
One of the most striking elements of the work was the installation of steel structures directly over the River Calder. This logistically complex task demanded careful planning and coordination. With the aid of a specially commissioned barge, our experienced site team successfully erected the steelwork on schedule, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining full compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
The work formed a critical part of the wider project, enabling the development of creative workspaces, performance areas, hospitality venues, and more. We were proud to play a role in bringing new life to one of Wakefield’s most iconic heritage sites, and to contribute to a project that supports the UK’s thriving creative economy.
